Your Friend, the Doctor is a vintage Coronet short from the same series as Your Friend, the Ratcatcher and Your Friend, the Dropout Who Just Needs to Crash on Your Couch for a Few Weeks While He Gets Things Together, Man. It’s also a direct prequel to the horror film Your Enemy, the Insurance Company.
The short tells the tale of young Jimmy – it’s a Coronet short so he was either gonna be Jimmy or Billy – as he meets his new doctor and begins a beautiful friendship. But before Jimmy can get to that he has to visit his school’s Health Nurse (as opposed to those nurses who fight against health). The Health Nurse sends Jimmy home with a letter to show his parents, and boy howdy, you will not believe how much screen time is devoted to the delivery and reading of this letter. Most boys would immediately shove the letter into the bottom of their backpack, where it would remain until it was discovered at the end of the school year, stuck to several candy wrappers. But not Jimmy! He is obsessed with the Health Nurse’s letter. No wonder he and the doctor become such close friends.
It’s a classic Coronet walk into an imaginary past in which everything was clean, nice, and even the healthcare system made complete sense. Don’t be late for your appointment with Mike, Kevin, Bill, and Your Friend, the Doctor!
