Yeti: Giant of The 20th Century

We’ve been saving this one for a while. Much like the Yeti in Yeti: Giant of the 20th Century was saved in a huge glacier until it started melting in the… you guessed it, 20th century. He broke the ice, and we’re breaking the glass case we’ve kept this movie contained in until now. Run, Yeti, run wild and hairy and free!

It’s an extremely '70s and extremely Italian take on the King Kong formula, so naturally it’s set in Canada. The twist: the kaiju in question is really just a dude — a massive dude covered in hair everywhere except his face, and his nipples, which are prominently featured in a moment so disturbing even the sasquatch nipples from Suburban Sasquatch had to look away.

The other twist: the Yeti seems to change size drastically from scene to scene. Sometimes he can be carried by a helicopter and sometimes he’s tall as a building. Prepare to challenge everything you know about basic spatial relationships!

A wealthy industrialist with an afro and bow tie that make him look like a member of the Hair Bear Bunch wants to use the Yeti to raise the profile of his company, in some vague way. His grandchildren befriend the creature, and his teenage granddaughter more than befriends it. If that sounds kinda creepy, it is! The movie also stars the dog Indio - the real hero - and a fine Collie actor who deserves the career Lassie had.

You have to appreciate a movie that lets you know right out the gate what century the giant is of. Strap yourself into a big red cage carried by a helicopter and join Mike, Kevin and Bill for Yeti: Giant of the 20th Century!

Note: Contains an off-screen moment of violence involving a dog. The dog survives.
