Terrible. Avoid this.

Just bought this. It is appalling.

1) There's about 15 minutes of directioneless chatter at the beginning of the track before the movie. Not a brief introduction or anything, just a bunch of chatter. Fortunately, this is not part of the riff, so you can fast forward past it.

2) There's no sync voice to match up with, or even a "get ready to pause this track 1, 2, 3" style introduction. You have to GUESS when to unpause. I did some cutting and pasting in Audacity and tried to work off the riff to figure out how to sync it up.

3) The guys are just plain annoying. The entire thing has one or more of these idiots chuckling. It's like watching Beavis and Butthead do an iRiff.

Overall, 0/5 stars. Avoid like the plague.

Terrible?

This riff is done in the same style as our weekly podcast - as it states on our profile page here at rifftrax: we are not a conventional MST3K program - our riffs are all 100% unscripted, unrehearsed and yes we laugh... cuz were having a good time. That's the style. Like our podcast, we open with some banter - foreplay if you will - if you want to stampede to the coitus, then, yeah - fast forward.
I appreciate the sync comment - while we do have a "321play" countdown, I left the sync points out cuz you can hear the film in the background. Sorry you dont want to "stick around" but it's our style. We do it differently to stand out - good or bad.

I actually did end up

I actually did end up listening to the whole thing. I stand by my review.

1) The "3..2..1.. GO" prompt happens very quickly in the middle of the track, after the trailer, and it doesn't work. Those "3..2..1..GO" prompts should be telling listeners to wait for a specific point on the DVD, pausing, then unpausing. As I recall, you launch into a riff of the trailer for some odd reason then immediately into the movie without any cues on when to pause/unpause. This makes it extremely difficult to sync.

2) The movie audio is audible in the background, and yes I did use that to sync up. However, it is very faint, and it took several minutes of cutting and pasting the riff audio track in Audacity to do that. I don't know how anybody who does it old school and goes with a movie in one hand and an MP3 in the other is going to do it.

3) That's nice that you're having a good time and all, but it comes off sounding like a laugh-track. There's something obnoxious about comedians laughing at their own jokes that sours the whole experience for some folks

4) Stating that "it's done in the same style as our podcast as it states in our profile page" is no excuse. I read product descriptions for individual product, and I imagine most people do too. A profile page for a merchant is irrelevant to a single product.

Look, I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but a well done Riff needs to be scripted and rehearsed. That's fine if you want to go off the cuff, but then anyone who buys your riffs is paying for a hobby instead of a comedy product. I don't think that iRiff consumers want that. People don't expect the same quality as an MST3K episode or official Rifftrax, but they want something. I said the same thing about the Celluloid Shinobis Twilight riff.

I only paid two bucks, which hardly breaks the bank (I spend more than that on Coke Zero in an average day), so I'm not bitter.

waiting for DVD...

Well, the copy of "Predator" that I ordered still hasn't arrived so I can't do a review of this iRiff yet, but I don't see why people would have to avoid this. Yes, it's a different style, but it's also available FOR FREE to try out. That seems mighty generous for any iRiff-ing group to do.

Well Garance, running out of

Well Garance, running out of gas in the middle of a road trip is also free, but it's still something you'd want to avoid.

Paid

Got the iRiff for free through the podcast after buying the other three Speedway Squad riffs and enjoying them. After listening this morning I had to come here and pay the $1.99. Well worth it. Great job again. More free style riffing please, guys. Thanks for the laughs.

Pain will not hurt you if you add these to your cart
