Terminator: Salvation - The One Man Band
Terminator: Salvation - The One Man Band

It is the year 2018.  The machines have taken over...despite the fact that they are about as easily tricked as Home Alone villains.  All Americans have found themselves replaced by Australians and the English, who imitate their accents...blandly.  And McG is allowed to direct another movie.

It is a dark time for humanity.

Enter the One Man Band, who, despite Rifftrax beating him to the punch*, has taken on this wonder of movie chicanery.  Sam Worthington (playing American Sam Worthington) wakes up to find the world somehow exploded around him.  He asks a robot with a machine gun what happened, which in turn leads him to meeting Ensign Chekhov (Anton Yelchin).  Sadly, while no one says "Wictor Wictor," he IS informed that there is a resistance fighting against the trigger-happy machines, which would be good news if it wasn't run by the kid from Newsies (Christian Bale).  From there, things get awkward, as Sam finds himself getting into fist fights with robots, skipping across ponds, and even getting blown up with landmines.  Gee, you'd think there's almost something MYSTERIOUS about him!**

But you're not just getting ANY iRiff.  Not only does the One Man Band upload a virus right where it hurts Skynet the most, you can choose between 6 flavors of iRiff (well, technically 4, depending on region, but it sounds better the way I said it)!  Not only are there versions of the riff for the Theatrical and Director's Cut R-Rated editions, each is also presented in a separate, glorious Stupend-O vision!  In these skit-filled editions of the audio track, just pause your film when you hear the bell, and you'll hear more of the same guaranteed hilarity*** between the PPD-3200 and the One Man Band himself!  Things start getting strange when the PPD decides to add a time machine to a broken soda machine...and there soon may be too many One Man Bands to handle!  With special guests stars Moleman and even a phone call from Christian Bale****, it's not to be missed!  Well, maybe.  I'm not twisting your arm or anything.  Just sayin', is all.

Terminator: Salvation!  You'l never look at a tire iron the same way again!

*I definitely suspect time travel was involved.  But anyway, this iRiff is absolutely, positively, certifiably guaranteed to have 99% different jokes from the Rifftrax version.  Well, maybe 98%.

**Mysterious to anyone who didn't watch the preview trailers.

***Not a guarantee.  Also, watching "The Ice Pirates" Stupend-O is not required, though if you bought that one, I certainly don't NOT recommend watching it.

****Mr Bale appears courtesy of his widespread rant.  He was not officially involved with this iRiff.

NOTE: The Director's Cut edition is presented in one format; as it is only widely available on Blu-Ray in both NTSC and PAL regions, the riff should work for either edition.  Also, the Amazon link leads to the Blu-Ray edition of the film, as Rifftrax already links to the DVD theatrical edition.

Re: Terminator: Salvation - The One Man Band

Two quick updates:

First, there is still a mistake contained in the Stupend-O Director's Cut version of the riff.  It is cosmetic only, it shouldn't affect the run-time.  However, I will be getting a fixed version up as soon as humanly possible.

I also wanted to add that there are currently two copies of the NTSC Theatrical version that are available when purchased.  One is a dud and will probably give you an error message when you click on it.  The correct file, OMBTerminatorSalvNTSCTheatrical.zip, should contain a working copy of the mp3 with all the bells and whistles.  If you previously bought the riff, and the file is inaccessible, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

When all is sweetness and light once again, I will certainly let you know.

Re: Good riff. 7 of 10 stars.

Thanks for the info.  I tried going through the copy I had, but I could only find a discrepancy of a few frames, which wouldn't be enough to throw it off by as much as you said.  But I'm concerned that the copy I've been using has some odd cuts and missing frames that seemed a little suspicious, so I'm going go through the riff with a different copy of the film to see if that fixes it.  If it does,  I'll upload the fixed copy as soon as I can.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: Attempts to upload the new copies has to be put on hold until server maintenance continues; I tried deleting and updating the mp3s, but I'm getting messages saying the old, deleted file still exists, so rather than clog up the system with 30,000 separate files, I have to wait until the old files are gone before I put up the new ones.  No sign of when that will happen as of yet.

But, I did notice a marked improvement using a different copy of the film, so I can say that the Theatrical cut can be fixed, with as little drift as possible.

Good riff. 7 of 10 stars.

This was one of four iRiffs I recently purchased and reauthored.  I liked it.  Good audio quality, good jokes, a couple of great laugh out loud moments.  Comparable in quality to the official Rifftrax of the same movie.

One issue though, the NTSC theatrical riff seems to drift off and get two seconds ahead of the movie around the 1 hour 10 minute mark.  It makes some of the jokes later on seem off.  You hear the riff, and then the action it is referring to happens a second later.  You hear a similar disparity with the last three sync lines.

I went ahead and fixed this in my copy.  I can send it to you if you want.

Re: Terminator: Salvation - The One Man Band

Well, bad news, then good news.  The bad news: the Director's Cut is still broken, and must wait to be fixed.  Again, the problem is cosmetic, so if you're just listening to it for the jokes, you have nothing to worry about.

The good news is, the drift issue with the theatrical cut has been located!  If you own this on DVD, chances are your copy is dual-layered, which means the movie pauses briefly as it switches from one layer to the next.  This happens at 58:49 on the NTSC version; the break may differ on a PAL version, but if it is in the same area (where the screen goes black after Barnes knocks out a character with his gun), it will be located at 56:25.  On some (I want to say most, but I can't be sure) DVD players, when this transition happens, the movie pauses, but the track does not, and thus goes ahead of the movie by approximately two seconds.

This is most easily fixed by pausing the track for two seconds when this happens (if you have the Stupend-O copy, you'll be used to it by this point), then starting it again.  I do have an edition ready to go that includes the two second delay in it now, and if popular demand wants it, I will try to see if it can be squeezed into the Theatrical cut zips so you can use whichever version you like (but, like the Director's Cut, this edition will have to wait until the servers are back to normal).

If you're watching the Blu-Ray Theatrical Cut, then the current track is perfectly fine; there is no dual-layer transition to worry about.  However, since you already own the Director's Cut, why not watch that one instead? ;-)

Enjoyable, lots of riffs for the money!

I watched the non-Stupendo version of this iRiff, and enjoyed it a lot.  The track is packed with many riff lines for pretty much the entire movie.  It's almost too many riffs, although I can't think of many riffs that I'd want to throw out.  The riffs aren't all laugh-out-loud jokes, but I enjoyed the vast majority of them.  And there's a good variety of riff-types.  Some are jokes, some are observations, and some are musical references (which tend to amuse me, since I do collect a lot of music).

I do intend to try out the Stupendo version sometime too, but I'm way behind on watching all the iRiffs that I've bought during the summer, so I thought I'd write up a review of the regular iRiff track.  The sound quality is pretty good, as there were only a few riffs that I couldn't quite catch as the movie was playing.  I'm rating it as 5-stars, although at this point there are quite a few iRiffs that I've given 5-stars to.  It'd probably be more accurate to say it's maybe 4.8 stars, but maybe that's splitting hairs too much!

Re: Terminator: Salvation - The One Man Band

Amazingly fun and smart.  A great mix of obscure references and thing that anyone will be able to laugh at.  to me this was one of the strongest Iriffs I've ever heard.  One man band continues an impressive streak: Mortal Kombat, American Werewolf, Underworld, Triffids (thank you for that as a long time fan of anything involving Triffids) and Term Salvation, I think this is easily as strong as the "Official" Term Salvation rifftrax.

Pain will not hurt you if you add these to your cart
