iRIFF BY: The Movie Asylum  (Created November 6, 2008)

Special Edition released October 28, 2009

Welcome to The Movie Asylum: You Don't Have to be Crazy to Riff Here but it Helps!

In their very first riff, riffers James Rosenthal and Ben Rosenthal enlist the help of guest riffer Steve Lutz to tear into Halloween 2.  For those who just couldn't get enough of a murderous mime in a bleached William Shatner mask there's good news: Michael Myers lives to slash another day in this lighthearted romp of a film.  That wacky Dr. Loomis and his best friend Sheriff Brackett are back to wander around aimlessly while our hero Michael Myers kills a lot of annoying, useless people.  Unfortunately, none of them is Shia LaBeouf.

The Special Edition of this riff includes:

- Cleaner audio.
- New/Alternate riffs.
- New intros/outros.

Written and performed by James Rosenthal (James of LinHood), Ben Rosenthal (MechanicalTorgo), and Steve Lutz (Steve-O), with additional writing by Mike Hirsch (dignan) and Christian King (Sideswipe) of the Rifftrax forums, this riff is fun for all of you aspiring psycho killers out there!  Just don't kill us.  We love our lives too much!

Beware the Fat, Gay Tusken Raider!!!

Good lord, this movie is bad. From the glacial pacing to Pleasence’s hilariously-hammy performance, this crap can is just begging to be riffed, and the Movie Asylum delivers a good one. There are tons of snappy, one-liner style riffs, many of which sort of caught me off guard and had me laughing out loud. I’m a big fan of riffs in the voice of a character and this group delivers a bunch of good ones. There is some very clever riffing over the opening credits a la old-school MST3K. Oh, and the two songs are brilliant!

These guys do a great job of pointing out the numerous flaws in this turkey, and they’re never spiteful about it, just funny. There are a couple of really good running gags that provide a bunch of laughs throughout. Namely, the shots fired gag and the lethal ineptitude of Loomis. My only gripe with this riff is that one of the riffers is a bit hard to understand at times.

Favorite laugh-out-loud moments (out of many):

“Corpse, corpse…”
Metric ton riff.
Praying for death riff.
Key party riff.
Track team riff.
“Sam Hain” riffs.

For what it's worth, I definitely recommend this iRiff. Consistently funny and a HUGE bargain at $0.99. It’s surprising these guys only have two feature-length riffs available because they’re a quality outfit.

On Par with Mike & Kevin's Halloween I Riff

My wife and I just finished watching this immediately after the "official" riff of Halloween, and we found it just as funny. Lots of MST trademarks (corpse singing opera, the "thrill as they do something mundane"-type announcement, etc) and well-handled callbacks to earlier scenes, plus humorously valid remarks on the character and logic fallacies. I hope to spend every October with these riffs in the future. Thanks!

A perfect treat for Halloween

The Special Edition of this riff has all the good jokes from the last one, some new surprises, and a great improvement in sound quality. It made me laugh out loud when I was feeling crappy :-)

The Singer is...

Steve-O! This is something you should be thankful for. Because if I attempted to sing you would have heard dogs howling along. :-P

I'm kinda weary of riffing a lot of horror movies nowadays because Hor-RIFF-ic Productions pretty much has that area covered. Besides, I gotta get this riff of Xanadu in the can first! But, who knows? I may talk to the Hor-RIFF-ic crew and see what they're planning so I don't step on their toes. But Xanadu first...which is kinda a horror movie in it's own right. :-P

I will !!!!

I give you guys a lot of credit ... my friends love it when I riff on movies but I don't have enough to do a whole movie. I would love to do The Exorcist :-) and a few others (a few of the Hammer Dracula's to name a few) come to mind. The remake of The Amityville Horror I could see you guys doing.

ps Who did the actual singing for the track?

James of LinHood's picture

Mr. TheBratPrince.....

I personally would LOVE to do Halloween 3 at the very least. But I'd pretty much only be willing to do it if Steve-O wanted to join us again. So, PM him like crazy on the board and demand that he riff another one!

Also, you might want to keep your eyes on that Halloween 2 thread. You might be seeing a special announcement in the next week or two.... :-)

I loved it ...

I rewatched it and did what u suggested by singing the second version of the lyrics. It was a great performance but I really wish you could edit it so you are louder. Will you be doing any more of the series?

Lyrics

Hey BratPrince,

Glad you enjoyed the dramatic Stalking Theme!

The song was, indeed, written especially for this riff. I've posted the lyrics to the forum here, along with the lyrics to the "lost song" that didn't quite make the cut for the final script.

Thanks for giving our little iRiff a shot (or seven)!

The lyrics to the Halloween Theme

Did you write those or are they part of a song? Can you post the lyrics? For me it was one of the best parts of the riffing.

Right up there with the guys Halloween riff!

Well done! I had a lot of fun watching this, to me it matched Mike and Kevin's riff of Halloween. I look forward to checking out your other iriffs.

Good Riff

I enjoyed this one. The riff gets a 4/5. Audio 3/5. Like the previous poster mentioned a few minor audio issues. Just a suggestion, you might want to make sure your dynamics are a bit more even.

With that said, still a great riff and worth the price of admission.

Thank you!

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

Re: The sound. I knew that this was an issue. It's one of the big reasons we're selling this for only $0.99. I can tell you that the audio quality will be much improved on all of our future riffs. So, we hope that you'll stick with us!

Pretty Good

The audio needs a little work but overall I laughed.
