Jetrel! This is a completely original episode where an alien species has developed a nightmarish weapon that they use during war-time to completely vaporize anyone within a radius of many miles and make others who are outside the blast zone deathly ill. Can you believe some aliens?!
"Ghost reportin'. Never know what hit 'em."
Anyway, most previous ST: Voyager riffers are terrorized by the uber-intimidating Captain Janeway, and rightly so. However, I must admit that I find her rather, how shall I say, alluring. Somehow I imagine that being sent to sick bay after multiple bruises and lacerations were administered by her able hands after I asked her out would be the best time of my life. Siiiiigh...
Oh, sorry. This episode also stars James Sloyan, who has donned the Trek makeup quite a few times before and who was also the voice of Lexus for a while (a fact I make minimal reference to in this iRiff).
So, join with me, Trek-virgin "Just Andrew", as we seek to rule the galaxy as father and son! (That's right, isn't it?)
Many thanks to "Ice on Mars" for asking me to be a part of the fun. Don't forget to pick up the previously riffed ST: Voyager episodes. However, none of them can ever love you like I can, Captain Janeway.

the best solo riffers are somehow able to mesh a laid-back charm with an amount of riffs that's not over- or underdone. Andrew pulls it off with aplomb so natural as to be invisible. another solid riff, and of an episode i remember really liking when i was younger, but now that i watch it it's kind of .... eh. like, it really feels like they had this great idea for the first half, but then the ending takes this WEIRD unnecessary turn. like they were like, at the last minute, OH CRAP WE'RE SCI FI. it doesn't fit, it doesn't add anything, and it really lessens the episode. that time could've been spent with something much more interesting. [and you know it's not going to go anywhere. if jetrel's experiment HAD worked and we got some sort of arc about these talaxians having to integrate back into society, or even grabbing a few more for the voyager crew, that COULD have made that subplot worthwhile]. also, yeah, neelix's tirades get old pretty quickly. much like 'phage,' what starts as an interesting concept quickly spins out of control for various reasons, the most glaring of which being that neelix is not the right character for this, it's just that really the only other character you could do this story with would be Kes, and that would probably make little sense, as well, seeing as how she's maximum, what, 3 years old?
anyway, solid riff, and more than one LOL moment (pretty rare for me). tho they were not LOL moments for me, i esp. enjoyed the mecha-godzilla riffs. the first one i was kind of like, 'well, that's silly,' but making them a running gag made it get better and better. it is kinda weird how one of the big complaints about voyager is it keeps getting destroyed every week, and then it's fine even though they have no starbases, yet on a rewatch, it's like ... it's gotten into ONE firefight so far and we're down a season already. i'm guessing that changes fairly quickly after this, but /shrug/ it's still surprising. anyway, great riff, thanks for being a part of this.
