Like so much Trek, Voyager's high concept is brilliant, but its execution is, shall we say, somewhat flawed. Ostensibly about a solitary Federation ship in uncharted territory having to mix with a renegade Maquis crew, searching for a way home and having to adapt and take drastic measures along the way, the show quickly becomes a reset button-laden TOS wannabe. With the pilot, we get a blobby alien who brings ships into the Delta quadrant so it can pretend to be an old woman offering corn and/or an old grumpy man who plays the banjo. It also likes to become a flirtatious young woman. Less said about that, the better.
The pilot also introduces us to a race of Thunderdome rejects who haven't figured out water but have spaceships. They like to talk about how useless other races are. We also meet the disturbingly nude Neelix. Janeway decides to strand them all 75 years from home with little to no thought and for vague, seemingly unnecessary reasons. It's a fun ride for all.
Ice on Mars is formed of Michael T Bradley and various guest riffers. Joining Michael for this first outing is Jason Freston, his cohort on the podcast Acts of Treason, still available at www.holynightmare.com. Jason is a slightly bigger geek than Michael, which applies even more so when it comes to Star Trek. (Michael is pretty sure Jason can tell you every Trek captain's Kobayashi Maru story).

As a Huge Star Trek fan, You've got my support in Riffing more Voyager (and even TNG & DS9) episodes!!
The One, The Only, RVR II
Not bad. Pretty funny, entertaining, and never boring. This one is longer than a normal episode but I could see these Voyager riffs being very useful for those who want something longer than a short but perhaps don't want to invest in a feature. The audio quality is good and there are sync lines which is not something all iRiffers do.
I've seen better but I've also seen much, much worse and I don't feel many would be disappointed with their purchase.
Starts off a little slow but gets increasingly better. Thankfully, by the third act which is right around the time that the story itself is crashing and burning these guys really hit their stride.
This one was much better than the samples indicated. It did take a while to get started but after the first half-hour I really got into it with these guys (so to speak). Very well done. I'd think it was a 5 if I didn't hate Star Trek so much and found the episode itself boring. So I gave it a 4. Favorite lines were "help I'm stuck in the ceiling", VaginEARS, the "baby or calf ship", and the Wang bonor sound the first time. The Wang jokes actually didn't get old for me. Can't wait till you guys do something other than Star Trek.
My quandry is this: This is a good riff of a TV series which really annoys me. On the one hand, I do love to see it riffed, but on the other hand if I say nice things about this, you might go out and buy episodes of ST:Voyager (or maybe even a season DVD set!). And I hate to think I would have any part in increasing the sales for this awful TV series! ___p___
The riff starts off with some observations on how the episode stars out with several similarities to a certain other movie that they never explicitly mention (hint: Star Wars). Michael and Jason do a good job of distracting us from the silliness of the script with a variety of riffs. They make fun of the techno-babble, they have a series of jokes on "the wrong kind of indian" (which is a joke that comes up a few times in the episode itself) and they make cross-references to various songs, movies, or other TV shows. They aren't shooting for big laughs with each riff, but they did come up with plenty of lines throughout the whole episode, and that does make it much easier to get through. And as they get farther into the episode, the riffs get funnier, or at least it seemed so to me. About halfway through the episode, when the crew is transported to the fake country-scene, they add a riff line of "Midnight in the garden of 'Dumb and Dumber'". At one point Tuvok says "Vulcans do not worry", and one of the riffers say "They be happy", which works particularly well given the absolutely serious and stoic face that Tuvok has at that time. There's also a shot where Tuvok is striding down a ship corridor with determination, and the riffers break into "Stayin' Alive". And they have an ongoing joke about Nelix being the comedy relief, and break into clown/circus music every time he's excitedly saying some silly lines. From there to the end, more of the riffs are pretty funny. ___p___
They also do a good job on the technical side of things. I bought the "Caretaker" episode from the iTunes (since I didn't want to buy a whole season on DVD!). Somehow I never get the initial syncing quite right, but it doesn't take long to get it right, and once I do then it stays in sync for the rest of the episode. The audio recording is also well done (IMO, at least). I am a fan of the original star trek series, the next generation, and even some of the story arcs in Deep Space Nine. Given that, I like ST:Voyager about as much as fans of Star Wars like the three SW prequels... This riff track is good enough that it takes a show that drives me nuts and makes it fun to watch. I'll give the riff track 5 stars, but I hope no one goes out and buys the DVD set just to watch this!
Another thing that Ice on Mars picks up on, is that the caretaker wastes a lot of time saying, "NOT ENOUGH TIME!!!". If he would have just answered questions when asked, it would have taken less time than all the "NOT ENOUGH TIME!!" nonsense. There's still plenty of stupid things in this episode which Ice on Mars didn't comment on. For instance, why is it that this planet which can't possibly support rain, somehow has clouds in many shots of the sky? What, Mr. Super-Alien can't do a little cloud-seeding? ___p___
One that always bugged me is that the caretaker can pull people from across the galaxy at faster-than-light speeds, but it never occurs to him to simply relocate the Ocampa to some other planet which *did* have water and rain. Let me emphasize this. The caretaker has been around the planet for about 1,000 years. He can *INSTANTLY* pull two separate ships across a distance of 75,000 light-years. Imagine how many planets there must be in a sphere which has a radius of 75,000 light-years! Or how about that he picks up one ship, and then a couple of weeks later comes back to the same point to pick up a second ship. A ship which just happens to be there, chasing the first ship, at the exact same time he's looking at this spot of the universe which is 75,000 light-years away from his current location. Geez. I imagine that's like us looking at the surface of pluto, picking up a microbe, and then swinging by a few weeks later to look at the exact same grain of sand to see if we can find a second microbe on it.
I was not sure what to expect on this as Voyager is a pretty lame show and I was not too familiar with Ice on Mars' work.
It was HILAROUS with many, many, many laugh out loud moments. The recurring jokes were also well placed and very funny.
Now that i have amazon prime and all episodes are available for free viewing, I might have to buy these. Is there a way to buy all the voyager episodes at once and save some $?
