Just when you thought man/lizard love couldn't get any worse...it does. Reuniting after their glorious performances in JAWS 3D, Quaid and Jr. are back in ENEMY MINE. In their usual unscripted and unrehearsed style, the team from Speedway Squad hammers this stinker into a fine paste and serves it on the half-shell. www.speedwaysquad.com

Speedway Squad is one of my favorites on the site - and their 2nd iRiff did not disappoint. Very funny all the way through.
Speedway squad have a somewhat different approach in their riffing style, and they have picked a style that they're good at doing. It's a more casual, relaxed, stream-of-consciousness rambling and mockery of some film while the film is playing. This is their second official iRiff, and in my opinion it doesn't work quite as well as their first or third iRiffs. (aside: I have no idea what their podcasts are like, or if their other podcasts have also riffed movies). I have a feeling they weren't as familiar with this movie went they went into it, and at times seemed to be grasping at straws for something to say -- particularly when compared to their other two iRiff tracks. ___p___ Part of the issue might be that I had more trouble getting this iRiff synchronized to the movie than I had with their other two iRiffs, and sometimes their comedy lines really depend on *EXACT* timing. For instance, I thought things were all synchronized up, and then I got to the part in the free sample where they do the "It's!" line from Monty Python, and I found out I was off by about 10 seconds. And the "It's!" line really does not work when the image on the screen is a barren landscape with no one in the picture! I've played the iRiff several times now, and I never end up in the right spot of the movie when they say that joke. In the sample that line is hilarious (IMO), but when I'm syncing the iriff to the movie it's always a "WTF?" line. ___p___ It's still a funny track, as long as you don't mind their occasional trips into more risque comments (the track does deserve that "explicit content" warning). And they picked a movie which deserves a good dose of mockery. All the technical details are handled well (except whatever issue is causing me trouble with syncing). I'm giving it four-stars (although it might merit a weak 5-star rating), partially because their other to riff tracks are (IMO) clear 5-star material.
I really enjoy Speedway Squad. I enjoy their style of impromtu riffing. Most iRiffs come off as over-rehearsed and trying too hard. These guys release super-funny riffs without even trying. Good stuff.
You guys are awesome...especially this iriff! Keep them coming!
