Ah, the seventies. It was a time when exploitation ruled (well, not ruled. What’s the word? Oh, yes. “Existed.” It existed). What’s better than exploitation cinema? Knock off exploitation cinema! You know I mean it because of the exclamation point! And thus we arrive at The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant. is to exploitation classic The Thing With Two Heads, as Transmorphers is to Transformers. But wait, there’s more! Did I mention the stars!? No? That’s probably because they’re Casey Kasem, Pat Priest (Marilyn Munster) and Bruce Dern (…um, who? Oh, right. THAT guy).

The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant

Enjoy as Doug (The History Channel’s History of the Joke, Orwellian Nightmare Society) sits down and takes on the movie that includes drunken Nazi bikers in pain, a random dog in the background, a talented grandfather clock, copious ammounts of mad science and a two-headed, mentally handicapped rapist!

This is a VOD presentation, with the movie and riff pre-synced for your enjoyment. You ain’t gotta do nothin‘!

Me Likey

It's good.  Doug's style somehow gives the feeling of sitting in the back of a theater with him shouting things at the screen.  His jokes are funny and he serves a command performance.  This style and confidence likely grows out of his career in stand-up and provides the audience with the feeling that we are not so much part of a group experience but more like we are watching a performance.  In the world of riffing this is a unique (and surprisingly pleasant) experience.  In short, me likey.

Another super-awesome riff! We need more trashy 70's movies riffed. You guys are definitely high on my iriff watch list.

Re: Doug's Big, Long One - The Incredible 2-Headed Transplant VOD

Doug was nice enough to grant me this file in exchange for feedback, so here it is. I'll try to make my criticisms constructive, which I find difficult for twofold reasons with stuff like this: one, generally a criticism of an iriff boils down to 'i didn't find it funny,' and two, i feel like it implies that my stuff is OBVIOUSLY better. I do feel, however, that I have a couple of worthwhile points to make here.

First of all, I must comment on the audio on this. I downloaded the 'fixed audio' file, so I'm assuming the audio was problematic from the beginning. The problem for me was not mixing, as is usually the case, but the fact that the movie was so ... 'muted.' There's this weird quality a lot of films made in the late '70s, early '80s have, the ones that are usually like third generation copies like I'm guessing this one was, where they come out sounding like the sound was recorded on shag carpeting. Everything is just muddy and muffled. The riffs from Doug are pretty easy to hear, but I'd find myself straining to understand the movie, then clearer riffs coming through, and it was difficult for my auditory senses to process. Maybe I'm just picky that way. I know that for sure some MST3Ks suffered the same problem (Manos: The Hands of Fate comes to mind, but it thankfully--if that's the right word--had so little dialogue that it wasn't as distracting for me). Obviously this is more a fault of the film than Doug's, but when choosing a film to do a VOD of, this can be important (and this could be the only one he's riffed that has this frustration; just pointing it out).

Secondly, OH MY GOD does he need a second riffer! Seriously, there are a LOT of jokes crammed in here. I wouldn't say it's OVER RIFFED--i'd maybe cut out like 10% of the jokes and it'd feel just right for me--but it definitely feels over riffed for a single voice. The problem is that you're just all over the emotional spectrum within seconds, and it's a bit jarring when there's only one persona doing the voices. With two voices, it would feel more natural and not so much like someone dubbing in records that had to be done afterwards b/c there's no way to breathe enough to get in the jokes you wanted to get in. Also it leads to some weird enunciation. One example, fairly early on there's a one-two joke where Bruce Dern is saying something, and Doug responds with, 'I'm gonna get a sandwich.'  Bruce Dern says something involving the word "human." Response: "A HUMAN sandwich." Perfectly good giggle-worthy gag, except instead of delivering them in the Bruce Dern 'hey man' laid-back hippy offhand voice, they're delivered as if on stage doing a community theater play, where every line ends in !. I'm not trying to say this to knock the riff. Most of the writing is top notch (the Shaggy impersonation when Bruce Dern's character is first glimpsed is spot on, for instance), and the riffing is all over the place in a good way when it comes to the writing; it's just the delivery that suffers from being a single voice, and I REALLY think having a second voice would almost certainly compensate for the aforementioned problems. That being said, there is a certain charm to it. At times it was kind of like listening to a late night one-man college radio show where you can tell the DJ is furiously switching out cartridges with different little parts in his bit, sometimes messing up lines, but, man is he devoted to it.

Overall very fun and enjoyable, just definitely written to be two riffers at least, I think. Thanks for the file! Hope this was helpful at least a little bit.

Doug's frenetic style can be daunting, but the constant barrage of jokes really made this film go over well for me. A worthy buy!
