Just in time for the holiday season, a special to warm your heart and your trigger finger -- the very special Dragnet episode, "A Gun For Christmas". Meet Stanley, the boy who gets the aforementioned gun. He's your average nine-year-old boy... WITH AN URGE TO KILL. Can the intrepid police sergeant Joe Friday get to the bottom of the mystery -- and our hearts? This iRiff includes the video file - no syncing necessary!

Special thanks to my good friend Kevin Rudolph, who helped write and briefly appears in this iRiff! Script and performance by Matt Nelson.

Dragnet Episode 18: The Big Seventeen!By OneWallCinema!

Ah, Dragnet... one of the bizarre wonders of television... before I even knew of MST3k, my family used to turn to reruns of this how for non-stop unintentional hilarity. We would gather 'round the ol' TV and heckle poor ol' Joe Friday mercilessly, and the bizarre stale nature of the show, along with its antiquated-in-its-day attitudes... I can't believe no one thought to riff on this 'classic' series until now!

As is, the episode itself is pretty funny, but the riffing was perfect and spot-on throughout (particularly towards the ending, which had my mother laughing so hard she as crying!). I loved the phone gags for the most part, and the 'moral' of the story (and the guest spot it brought on!). Definitely a track my family will be revisiting, and often...

However, I do have one quibble to go with this track: the audio is just dreadful! It might be best to consider seeing about toying around with audio levels a little bit in your next attempt (and I do seriously hope there will be another!)

All in all, a fantastic job, and I look forward to seeing more from this iRiffer!

Thanks so much for the comments! If you could, can you specify whether you meant the audio of the riff or the audio of the movie?

Again, thanks a lot!

The topic of this episode of Dragnet is especially somber, so I think it's a tough one to riff on. There are a few especially-absurd plot points in the episode though, and those are hard to overlook even if the viewer is trying to keep to the somber topic. Matt does a fairly good set of riffs, and I would be happy to see him do riff tracks for more of these older Dragnet episodes. But this episode is probably not a good one to start on, even though it has "Christmas" in the title and thus seemed like a good basis for making a riff in December.

Thanks for the review! Actually, I chose it both as a Christmas title and because the morbidity appealed to my dark sense of humor. I did name my iRiffs Dark Matter Productions, after all. ;) Hope you enjoyed it anyway!

I loved it.. Thought it was about an 8/10 for most of it but the last bit of the episode boosted it up to a 10/10. That is one odd moral of a story.. Thanks Matt for introducing me to it... now where did I put that gun...

Yeah, that last part was sheer gold. Made for some darn easy riffing. :)

Great job M@! I thoroughly enjoyed it. Best line was "Eyes are up here". I really can't believe the ending. I think I said "WHAT????" just about as loud as you did. Moral of the story, I now want a gun for Christmas.

Thanks, the moral was immensely fun for me! Glad you enjoyed it!

I really liked this one and thought your ending bit was hilarious!

...so, yeah! Title says everything.
