iRIFF BY: The Celluoid Shinobi's  (Created March 27, 2009)

Twilight, or DUSK ..as I call it, features sparkly Emo teens who claim to be Vampires. One falls in love with a very smelly and equally as Emo Girl from Phoenix, and as TV Guide would say... Hilarity Ensuses.

Watch along with The Shinobi's as they try their best to make this film watchable.

Product Note: There is no Disembodio Type Sync for this riff, but it should not be needed. This Riff was performed Live and off the Cuff from beginning to end.

This is an iRiff!
What are iRiffs?

It was Ok.

I think this is an OK riff. Considering it was recorded live, it was cool. I can tell there is no script. It was cool.

Weak effort, riffing should not be improvised.

Pretty awful, in my opinion. As the product page says “This Riff was performed Live and off the Cuff from beginning to end. “ and you can tell. While it produced a couple good parts (I particularly liked the scene with Edward and Bella sitting high up in a tree overlooking the river below the mountain, and one guy saying “this is where the fish lives”), it mainly comprised a lot of insulting the movie instead of riffing it. Of course I'm not offended by insulting movies, but I don't think it produces particularly funny results.

First of all, the audio quality was awful. Secondly, the riffs were often borrowed from MST3K and didn't make a lot of sense. There was one particular run, in the scene where Edward reveals to Bella that he is a vampire, that they start discussing how vampires (broody, pale skinned, sparkling in the sunlight), are similar to Packers fans. That doesn't really make any sense, as none of these qualities are traditionally associated with football fans of any stripe, and when the guys on MST3K made jokes about Packers fans, they were always about them being slow witted, overweight, and impulsive. The Celluloid Shinobis seemed to be copying a joke that didn't fit at all.

Beyond that, they went to the same lame jokes of “this movie sucks”, “end movie, end!”, and “I'm going to kill myself to get out of this” that have never been funny and were often the bane of some of the weaker Rifftrax (I'm looking at YOU Phantom Menace Rifftrax).

I'd avoid this one. Bad riffing, bad audio quality, a lot of strong language. Josh Way say that Bill Corbett frequently tells contributing writers that the purpose of a good riff is to be funny, not to savage the movie. It seemed like these guys, besides making the mistake of trying to improvise, were just going to the tactic of savaging a movie.
