Atomic Treatment: Day of Thanksgiving
Atomic Treatment: Day of Thanksgiving

Baby Boomers have grown through a series of changes: detatched hippies in their twenties, jaded young parents in their thirties, greed-driven investors in their forties and granola eating, yoga practicing new-agers in their fifties.  Watch this film and see how their generation began, as spoiled whiny kids in the fifties.  Oh and there's something about being thankful and the Pilgrims in there somewhere.  Have a great Thanksgiving everyone!  And remember to only eat the truly patriotic Thanksgiving side item: cornbread dressing.  If you are eating that disgusting white bread stuffing you're practically helping the terrorists. Runtime: 13:13 minutes.

What am I thankful for? Atomic Treatment!

Aside from the very unlucky runtime this is top-notch stuff. I haven't tried to locate a good copy of the short myself so I don't know what's available but I feel it is worth note that the video quality was terrible. It didn't really bother me though and it improved when I stopped trying to scale the image to full screen. (I use VLC Player) But otherwise this is great stuff. (As is always the case with Atomic Treatment) Atomic Treatment's jokes are actually funny, witty, and clever instead of just complaining and bashing the movie like most other Rifftrax. If you like MST3K style humor more than Rifftrax style humor then this is the group for you. I'm not saying this is the VOD to start with mind you; I'm referring to the group as a whole. I would probably recommend "To Enrich Mankind" or "It Can't Last" as a first outing with Atomic Treatment. This one is very good though. That's one of the great things about Mandrake, he's consistently good.

I must be getting sappy because I actually thought this short was kind of sweet. Must have been the choir music. But really, I could see it having a positive impact on someone. And I know some of the things they say you should be grateful for seem silly but sometimes it doesn't hurt to be reminded of the things you take for granted. Not that it's a great movie that didn't deserve the Atomic Treatment, it's just not the worst short ever and it's not a bad message. Sometimes with the official Rifftrax shorts their message is actually really good but the execution is terrible. Or they're just completely pointless. To this day I'm still brought to the brink of madness trying to figure out why Kathy won't eat her breakfast.

Re: What am I thankful for? Atomic Treatment!

Yeah it was not the worst short in the world but the corny nature and idealized family just beg to be riffed.  Sometimes it's not the worst movies that make the best riffing targets, it's just that special combination of je ne sais qua.
